Remote Viewing: Men Who Stare At Goats

You might be surprised to know that in the 1980s the United States Army ran a top secret program to train a team of psychic spies. The Soviets were already experimenting with psychic research and so, with the blessing of then President Ronald Reagan, the US Army recruited an expert in the field of parapsychology to come up with a methodology for training soldiers with super powers. Ingo Swann (now deceased) was that expert, the man known as the father of remote viewing. The military’s team of remote viewers, known as the First Earth Battalion, was stationed in Fort Bragg under the command of Lt. Colonel Jim Channon.

The Army actually started using remote viewers as early as the 1970s. Back then remote viewing consisted of putting someone into an altered state and directing their minds toward a military target. Most of these targets were secret Russian military bases that could not be penetrated using traditional means, so the remote viewers used Extra-Sensory Perception (ESP) to spy on the Soviets.  In the words of a retired US Army Officer, “Remote Viewing is an advanced communication skill where, without the aid of anything beyond your own mind, your awareness, your consciousness, you are able to collect accurate information about some place distant in space and time.” Along with remote viewing, Lt. Col. Channon’s team of psychic spies experimented with cloud bursting (breaking up clouds using focused mental energy); phasing (changing physical forms to energy); telekinesis (moving objects with the mind); intuition; and physical invisibility.

In 2009, Hollywood came out with a film The Men Who Stare at Goats, based loosely on Lt. Col. Channon (Bill Django in the film) and his team of remote viewers. It seems that the army had 100 goats secretly delivered to their base to be used in various experiments, including one that involved men staring at goats with the intention of stopping their heart. If you have difficulty buying into the Hollywood story, then I suggest you watch the interviews at the end of the film with real life army officers who were involved in this secret program. Documents and their verbal confirmation support the claim that at least one soldier was able to stop the heart of a goat by using mind technique.

Remote viewing engages the senses (sight, smell, hear, taste, feel) and requires extreme concentration. The reviewer must refrain from guessing the target (the result) or using word association. The intent is to stay low level and allow the images to come. The more focused the reviewer and the longer the time spent reviewing, the more detailed and accurate the results.

Here is a simple, remote reviewing exercise to practice with: Shuffle a deck of cards and place them face down. Draw ten cards from the deck and place them face down on the table. What color do you see on the first card? Do you see a person, a number, or a symbol? What symbol or number do you see? Record your impressions for each card and then turn the cards over to find out how accurate your impressions were.

The military closed down their remote viewing program after it went public in 1995. However I have my suspicions that the military continues to explore the human potential through esoteric knowledge-gaining experiments. Like their denial of Area 51 and the UFO program, the military has probably just gone deeper undercover.

If you have had any experience with remote viewing or know someone who has, or you just want to comment on this topic, please leave a comment. We want to hear from you!
